Tahini, maple & almond cookies

There is absolutely a place for cookies in our lives! Even those like me who tend to go for savoury before sweet when hungry, there is something about those cookies that is just so delicious. Super quick to put together and with a better protein content than most shop bough cookies! What’s not to like?

Dark chocolate date and nut butter fudge

Dark chocolate, nut butter and medjool dates! 3 wholesome simple ingredients only and this fudge is unreal! Of course it is high in sugar (the dates) and calorie dense (nut butter) but if you’re going to treat yourself, do it with real food ingredients you know and recognise!

My tip? Cut into small squares. Go on, have a go and let me know!

Delicious dairy free date brownies

Life without the occasional brownie is not for me! For that reason, I love trying to play with swapping and replacing ingredients for those with a better nutritional value. For these brownies I have not used refined white or brown sugar but instead opted for medjool dates. You would honestly not notice the difference. But I will let you be the judge of that…Go on, have a go and let me know!

There is often a debate in my house which goes like this: there is team carrot cake and team banana bread . So I thought I would try and bring the two together! Brave I know and lots of confused faces! I will leave you to judge on that once you’ve tried it! Delicious served toasted with a dollop of your favourite nut butter.

Easy healthy oats cookies for kids

Similar to another one of our recipes but even easier. They are the perfect recipe to hand over to the kids so they can make by themselves. Limited ingredients, all done by hand, no knife needed, minimum mess to clear up…just perfect. They are also best eaten straight out of the oven!! Ideal activity and treat rolled into one for when kids are at home with friends!

Cookies are not just delicious to eat, they’re such a joy to re-invent creatively! I like playing with the base ingredients, extras, and adjust with the seasons. These are flourless, naturally gluten free and contain no refined sugar. They are best eaten warm straight out of the oven and shared obviously!

Family life would not be the same without cookies! So I’m always trying new ingredients and combinations. But today this is just one of those healthy classic options that I keep re-inventing. Quick and easy, delicious, perfect for the kids to make themselves. What’s not to like! Perfect healthy snack for school pick up before heading to sport clubs!

Plum and ginger upside down cake

With Autumn comes a beautiful fruit season, especially when you live in Kent, the Garden of England, surrounded by orchards and this upside down cake is a great alternative to a crumble. It present beautifully, keeps well and is delicious with a little vanilla ice cream! It contains no sugar besides the fruits and a little maple syrup. It is naturally gluten free and so quick and easy to prepare.

Most flapjack recipes are packed with sugar - but if you include some sweet fruit, such as raspberries then you can really cut down on the sugar content. We have used honey as well as the berries to sweeten these flapjacks. The first time I cooked these I left them on the side and when I came back to them my daughter and husband had helped themselves to quite a few squares. So these were definitely a hit and as they are super easy and nut free make a great school snack!

Rolled oats are THE staple ingredient I run out of the most often! I use it for everything, savoury or sweet, breakfast or dinner!. High in fibre, naturally gluten free if you chose the right brand and so so versatile. If you have oats and bananas you can always make cookies! Yes, bananas are another twice weekly must buy on the shopping list . The base recipe for these delicious cookies is just the 2 ingredients. You can add your choice of extras (seeds, nuts of choc chips) and make a thumbprint in the centre ready for a jammy filling. Mango and coconut it is today!

lemon, ginger and pistachio cake

I have been wanting to make a lemon cake using a whole lemon for a while. The important phytonutrients in lemons are found in the peel - the part we normally throw away (see tip below). This cake remedies this! Since the whole lemon is used this is quite a grown up taste and not massively sweet. I love this lemony, nutty hit – but if you love your cakes very sweet this might not be for you! Be sure to choose organic lemons to avoid wax and pesticide residues.

Chai, cherry & almond cookies

Cookies are part of life as a foodie…They are also most kids favourites so let’s enjoy them for what they are… a fab treat. They sometimes get a bad reputation but it doesn’t have to be that way. Dried fruits also get a bad rep but as long as they are used in moderation and are just that, fruits, no additives, no added sugar, just fruit, they are delicious and count towards your portions. These oat cookies went down a storm in my house.

With autumn (fall) upon us as I write, we all suffer a little more urge for comfort foods. This apple bread is perfect for using up all the apple around at this time. It is gluten free and contains not other sugar than what the apples contain. Delicious served with a berry fruit compote and a dollop of nut butter.

With it's cake bottom and crumble top - this cake is delicious and was a hit with both big and small in the family. They never guessed that it contained a vegetable! It's got sugar in the form of maple syrup - that means it's a treat and not to be consumed everyday. However, if you want a treat - then this is amazing and will satisfy any sweet tooth.

When love of food and health meet in the kitchen, you get balance! This means that cookies can still be part of your life! Sometimes, the children will ask "Oh no mummy, is that another one of your healthy recipes?". How about "No" for an answer until they try!
These new cookies bring together some of the flavours of a carrot cake without the unnecessary sugar overload and are a great success at school pick-up time. Nice breakfast cookie for those in a rush!
