our story

Kat and Val met in the gym and their love of talking about food, nutrition and swapping recipes eventually led them to setting up The Health Boost. Their mission is simple – getting the whole family to eat healthily and get active. They want to debunk the myth that eating healthily is only the reserve of the skinny 20-something with no children. Between them they have 5 children (and two dogs) ranging in age from 8 to 14, so they are well aware of the fussy eating toddler years to the peer pressure of the teenage years, and every fad in between. They believe passionately in the power of eating well and staying active to aid overall health and want everyone to embrace a healthy lifestyle – even time poor busy families! They love to cook with seasonal wholefoods and choose organic or local where possible.

Kat has always loved food and cooking. Her mother was a keen cook and she spent a lot of the time in the kitchen as a child – she even cooked her first Christmas lunch at the age of 12. After university Kat did a summer cooking course at Leith’s School of Food and Wine and every year her vast cookbook collection multiplies. In 2014 Kat enrolled at The College of Naturopathic Medicine to study Naturopathic Nutrition. She qualified in the summer of 2017 and now practises in her home town of Sevenoaks. Her love of cooking and feeding her family nutritious and tasty meals continues. She's also passionate about getting her children into the kitchen and teaching them to cook..

Val

Val was born in Burgundy, France and lived in France until the age of 27, where there was no such thing as children’s menus or children eating separately from parents. On moving to London in 1996 she was shocked to see her work colleagues in The City eating sandwich lunches over their keyboards, a complete contrast to the more Mediterranean way of stopping for lunch and taking time to digest and enjoy their food. Val has always eaten healthily and sport has played a large part in her life. She ran her first marathon in Paris in 2010. She works part time at Sweaty Betty. Val is a Qualified L2 Fitness Instructor and currently studying towards a Level 4 Personal Trainer Diploma including Exercise Referral and Exercise for Management of Low Back pain.
