Cacao & turmeric energy balls

We all need to find that perfect post workout refuel snack that will hit the balance between carbs and protein. This could be it for you! It is a no bake recipe, super easy, five mins to make and sets in the fridge within an hour! With that rich cacao flavour it will also satisfy that little craving for a treat! Perfect Sunday food prep ready for the week to avoid grabbing some high sugar processed snack in a rush!

 

ingredients

 

10 large medjool dates, pitted and soaked for 30 mins
2 tablespoon almond butter (or tahini for nut free version)
1 cup oats
2 tablespoon chia seeds
2 tablespoon shelled hemps seeds
2 tablespoon raw cacao powder
1-2 tablespoon ground turmeric (adjust to taste)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

 

method

 
  • In the bowl of a food processor, add the dates and almond butter and blitz to form a sticky paste.

  • Add all other ingredients and pulse until well incorporated.

  • It will probably form a large ball of sticky paste.

  • Pick up spoonfuls of mixture and roll between your hands.

  • Lay on a lined dish.

  • Once all the balls are formed, keep in the fridge to set for at least an hour.

  • Keep in the fridge.

The Health Boost Tip

These balls are entirely free of refined sugars. Chia seeds and hemp seeds provide good amounts of protein and fibre, oats are a good source of slow release carbs and the almond butter is a good source of healthy fats. Quick to prepare in advance as they are no-bake, these energy balls are a sure win for on-the-go refuel for hectic days without the nasties.
The turmeric is anti-inflammatory and has been shown to help with pain and inflammation in the body – so the perfect snack for post-workout.
